Use a WebDAV server to share documents

If you have access to a WebDAV server, you can copy your Pages documents directly to the server in Pages ’09 (from a Mac only), Microsoft Word, or PDF file format.

You can transfer documents from the server to your iOS device in Pages ’09, Word, or plain text (.txt) file format. You can access a WebDAV server in the document manager on your iOS device.

Before you can transfer files using a WebDAV server, you must first set it up to be accessible in Pages on an iOS device.

Connect to a WebDAV server from a Mac

  • In the Finder, choose Go > Connect to Server, type the address of the server in the Server Address field, then click Connect.

The server address should be in a form similar to this:

http://servername.com/path/

You can find more information about using WebDAV on a Mac in the Help Center on your Mac. Choose Help > Mac Help > Help Center, then search for WebDAV.

Set up a WebDAV server in Pages on an iOS device

  1. In the document manager, tap Add button in the toolbar.

  2. Tap Copy from WebDAV, then type the server address (web address or URL).

  3. Enter your user name and password.

  4. Tap Sign In.

After you sign in to your WebDAV server, you can copy files to or from the server without signing in again. You remain signed in to the server you set up until you tap Sign Out.

To sign in to a different WebDAV server, sign out of the current server and set up another one.

Copy a document to your WebDAV server from an iOS device

  1. Open Pages on your device, then do one of the following:

    • On iPad, if the document is open: Tap Share menu button (or tap Share menu button if the document is shared on iCloud), then tap Send a Copy.

    • On iPhone or iPod touch, if the document is open: Tap Tools button, tap Share and Print, then tap Send a Copy.

    • If the document is closed: Tap Share menu button in the document manager, tap Send a Copy, then tap the document you want to transfer.

  2. Tap WebDAV, then tap a document format.

If your WebDAV server isn’t already set up in Pages, enter the required information and sign in.

  3. Tap the folder where you want to save the document.

  4. Tap Copy at the top right.

Copy a document from your WebDAV server to an iOS device

  1. In the document manager, tap Add button in the toolbar, then tap Copy from WebDAV.

If your WebDAV server isn’t already set up in Pages, enter the required information and sign in.

  2. Find the document you want to copy by tapping the folder in which it’s located.

If no files or folders are listed, the server is empty.

  3. Tap the document you want to copy.

The document is downloaded and appears in the document manager.

Pages can open documents saved using some types of file encryption available in Microsoft Office 97 or later. If you can’t open an encrypted Microsoft Word document, try changing the type of encryption or the encryption options used, then save it again before opening it in Pages.

Pages doesn’t import rich text format (.rtf) file types. Convert .rtf files to another supported file type before importing them into Pages.

Delete a file from a WebDAV server from an iOS device

  1. In the document manager, tap Add button, then tap Copy from WebDAV.

  2. Find the document you want to delete by tapping the folder in which it’s located.

  3. Swipe your finger across the name of the file, then tap the Delete button that appears.

You can delete only files this way, not folders. This action can’t be undone.
